Governance

MobileMed is an integral part of the county's health care community, and so it is fitting that community leaders are the ones that help direct the agency's efforts. The organization's Board of Directors is composed of leaders in the fields of health carclinicalvol2_sm.pnge, business, social service, finance, organizational leadership, law, management and community relations. Board members serve on at least one of the organization's standing committees: budget and finance, clinical quality, fundraising/community relations and nominating. Members of the general public who are interested in the activities of the organization will find MobileMed open and accessible, with information about our mission, programs and finances readily available. Persons with questions regarding the operation of the organization are encouraged to contact MobileMed's Executive Director, Peter Lowet, at 301-841-0841.

President’s Message

presFY2012 was another productive year at MobileMed! Our mission to improve the health of low-income people who face the greatest care access barriers remains unchanged after 44 years. Our goal of health care access for all and our commitment to provide quality services with compassion, cultural sensitivity, and respect continue as our highest priorities.

The Board and Management worked together this year to define a strategic roadmap to guide our future actions and decisions in the changing health care environment. We assessed the expected impact health care reform could have on our patients and ways we could assure that our organization’s mission and values continue. We prioritized expansion of our Medicaid participation, reaffirmed our commitment to collaborative community partnerships, and remain dedicated to enriched patient-centered care models focused on health improvement in our community.

A new initiative that the Board and Management decided to explore is the possibility of becoming a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Many of the requirements for being a FQHC align with MobileMed’s mission, values, and goals including operational excellence and integrity. We were awarded a HRSA grant to assist us with FQHC planning. This funding provided us with the opportunity to engage external resources for a community assessment and to outline organizational changes that would be required before taking next steps. The community assessment also is providing us with an excellent opportunity to hear from our patients and others community members to learn more about their health care priorities and how MobileMed may further address their unique needs.

Our Board expanded its fundraising efforts and had a busy year hosting, attending, and supporting various MobileMed events and community outreach activities. Our spring event, Laugh Riot for MobileMed held at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda, was a great success. We appreciate the contribution from the Hyatt and sponsors of this fun-filled evening. A musical event at Woodmont Country Club was organized by various Board and Fundraising Committee members to honor Dr. George Cohen.   He received well-deserved accolades from Montgomery County officials and others to honor him as a co-founder of MobileMed and for all his years of community service. We were also delighted to enjoy Dr. Cohen’s musical talents as a flutist in duets at a musical benefit organized by a young volunteer and her family and at our annual Volunteer Recognition event. We are grateful for the many contributions from Board members, sponsors, staff, and friends in the community to help us continue to raise needed funds in this tough economic environment.

A special thanks to each MobileMed staff and volunteer for this year’s continued growth and for ensuring the mission, goals, and commitment to our patients stay at the forefront of all we do! We offer heartfelt thanks to our many Community Partners, Government Funders, Foundations, Businesses and Individuals, for their support. Your generosity allows us to provide accessible, high-quality care in our community both now and in the future. Together we make a difference!
